Energy Facility Surveying - Building Information Modeling
energy facility
In today’s world, the demand for energy seems to be an ever-present reality. Expanding and upgrading electrical utility plants, substations and transmission lines while adhering to budgetary constraints is difficult at best. The need to upgrade or install new oil and gas pipelines and meter stations to meet demand is also a concern.

Darling Environmental and Surveying is a company at the forefront of 3D Laser Scanning and Building Information Modeling (BIM). However, our services reach far beyond that. We can provide accurate data on electrical utility plants, electrical substations, oil and gas pipelines, meter stations, transmission lines and more; regardless of how remote the location. Having accurate information on your energy assets, secure yet available to the employees that need it when they need it, is invaluable.

Darling’s 3D laser scan data can provide information that otherwise might be missed. Electrical, mechanical and plumbing engineers as well as civil and structural engineers can use this BIM data to avoid clashes when designing around pre-existing assets. This BIM data is also important with regard to federal regulations and worker safety. Elevations of electrical utility assets on poles or support beams, for example, can be measured from a distance with a 3D laser scanner to obtain + 6mm accuracy.

Darling can scan new assets as well, to show accurate as-built conditions and compare those to the planned drawings; and red line the differences.
Our 3D laser scanning capabilities, coupled with our conventional surveying services, make Darling the answer for electrical utility and oil and gas companies nationwide.
